Trains, boards and plates

Story

Kings Cross Underground station is now in Phase 2 of its redevelopment, necessary to cater for the increased passenger flow resulting from commuter growth in the capital, and from the new neighbouring Eurolink terminal.

The new facility will provide a new 5,000 sq metre concourse, over twice the size of the existing one, with new shops and restaurants. It will also provide new integrated transport links with international and domestic services from St Pancras, as well as for the London Underground lines converging there.

The redevelopment uses over 50 Crabtree Polestar Section 12 distribution boards to supply all the electrical services to the station and the shopping plaza beneath. These LUL approved boards are fitted with 25mm 16kA MCBs. Crabtree Metalclad wiring accessories with plain surface boxes are being used throughout the working areas; plain mounting boxes, because they can be custom drilled to LUL’s specific requirements while maintaining the integrity of the boxes. Capital metal plate satin chrome finish accessories are used elsewhere, in the office and shop areas. LUL specify Crabtree switches as they have labyrinth protection to the rear for extra safety, preventing inadvertent access to live parts when cabled, and reducing visible arcing.

The new open piazza in front of the station will be larger than Leicester Square, when completed. The 50 million passengers who will use the station each year will benefit from an entirely restored, lighter and more attractive station.
