RADIATORS AND HEAT PUMPS…ARE THEY GOOD PARTNERS?

Story

Stelrad Radiators has responded to concerns about radiators working well alongside renewable heating systems such as air source heat pumps. Lower temperature heating systems will require larger radiators….but they will work well with heat pumps.

The key to radiators operating well in any situation is to size them properly at the outset, which involves accurately working out heat loss calculations to achieve the necessary number of BTUs required to provide comfort heating in each room and to select the right sized radiator.

You can achieve the extra boost radiators need by replacing the existing single or double panel radiators with the new K3 radiators that have three panels and three sets of fins – providing the additional metal surfaces you need but with the same radiator footprint.

Stelrad has anticipated the significant move towards air source heat pumps in the UK and has added new, larger size radiators to its portfolio. It has increased the K3 radiator options and added many new vertical radiators to their range too.

Radiators are very much ‘fit for the future’  – head for www.stelrad.com for more information.

HEAT PUMPS – THE SUSTAINABLY SENSIBLE HEATING SOLUTION …

Story

With recent announcements from Government about the decarbonisation of heating in the UK, the spotlight has been trained on the use of proven renewable technology to provide our heating and hot water.

Air to Water Heat Pump (AWHP) systems – monoblocs or splits – present energy-saving options for a home’s heating and hot water system. By replacing a traditional gas, oil, or solid fuel system, an AWHP can significantly reduce carbon emissions and energy usage. These device’s absorption of natural energy from external air makes them consume less energy than conventional heating systems.

Most homes in the UK are ideal for a Monobloc air to water heat pump. A Split system is an option generally for more complex installations and it can be installed up to 30m away from the home, which gives far more installation flexibility.

The LG Therma V R32 Monobloc range has already had a massive impact on the residential heat pump market. The unit is compact, meeting permitted planning permission guidelines, has a low GWP and an energy rating label of A+++.

MARSHALL-TUFFLEX CONTINUES ITS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY, WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF LATEST RECYCLED MANUFACTURING FIGURES

Story

Marshall-Tufflex has announced that its PVC-U cable management products were manufactured using 74% recycled material in the last year. This milestone is a significant achievement for the company as part of its mission to drive positive change in the industry, towards a minimum of 50% recycled material in cable management products by 2028.

A pioneer of plastic extrusion in the UK, British based manufacturer Marshall-Tufflex has been using recycled material originating from waste PVC-U windows in the manufacturing of its products for over 25 years and in 2020, this figure reached an average of 74%. Impressively, all white conduit, mini and maxi trunking lengths from Marshall-Tufflex are currently manufactured using 100% recycled material. Thanks to the company’s ongoing recycling commitment, thousands of tonnes of recycled PVC-U are now used when manufacturing their white PVC-U trunking and conduit products.

This news comes in the wake of the decommissioning of the NHS Nightingale hospitals. Last year, Marshall-Tufflex supplied a number of the NHS Nightingale Hospitals with its PVC-U cable management systems and was recognised by the British Chamber of Commerce as a ‘UK Business Hero’ for its work on the project. Built to provide forecasted capacity for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, some hospitals are now being closed and in keeping with the company’s recycling ethos, the trunking systems in some sites have been removed for recycling. The reclaimed PVC-U trunking was granulated and processed through a compounder to remove any impurities, resulting in recycled PVC-U material that will be used for new trunking or conduit systems.

To ensure consistent quality across all of its products Marshall-Tufflex take material samples from the production line every 10 to 20 minutes to check for consistency in colour and surface finish.

“At Marshall-Tufflex we believe that every individual has the responsibility to reduce their impact on the environment, and by pushing for higher recycled content in our products we hope to inspire others in the industry to join this vision that all PVC-U cable management products installed in buildings are manufactured using recycled material by 2028,” says Paul Mitchell, Managing Director at Marshall-Tufflex. “We are extremely proud to announce that our PVC-U products have been manufactured using 74% recycled material in 2020 and will continue to innovate and develop new ways to produce superior products that retain their high quality whilst reducing our impact as a company.”

Marshall-Tufflex is at the forefront of cable management innovation and is the UK’s foremost manufacturer and supplier of cable management solutions. For more information on Marshall-Tufflex and its work on sustainability, please visit www.marshall-tufflex.com.

Bradite in the swim

Story

A school swimming pool has been given a new lease of life, thanks to specialist coatings company Bradite.

Ipswich School now has a refreshed pool thanks to the Bradite CC24 chlorinated rubber eggshell finish coating.

A specialist masonry blasting company removed the dilapidated existing rubberised surface, providing a clean concrete substrate for the Bradite product to be applied.

Norwich-based Cladspray Solutions then primed the pool surfaces using a 20% thinned coat of CC24. This was followed by two undiluted coats of the same product, supplied in a colour specified by the client.

“The CC24 was selected because it is designed for use in a swimming pool, its ease of application and our confidence in the product after having used it on previous projects,” said Cladspray Solutions Technical Sales Director Dan Ruegg.

He added: “We also had a specification written by James Burton of Bradite Paints which was followed throughout the project. The result is a fantastic swimming pool refurbishment.”

The chlorinated rubber coating is surface dry in just 30 minutes and re-coatable after eight hours. It is anti-corrosive, offers excellent chemical resistance and is suitable for use on concrete, porous mineral and suitably prepared ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces. It can be applied by brush or roller, or conventional air or airless spray.
