New 10-Point Guide To Dehumidifiers
Story
Humidity control specialist, Condair, is offering a free 10-point guide to specifying dehumidifiers. The document covers the main issues surrounding planning and installing a commercial dehumidification system. It includes information on system design, product sizing, drying psychrometrics, energy saving and much more.
Dave Marshall-George, Sales Director at Condair explains, “This guide has been produced by experts in the field with experience spanning thousands of drying projects. It gives unbiased advice on both desiccant and condensing dehumidifiers. Written in an easy-to-follow style, the 10-point format makes it a very accessible reference tool for any HVAC consultant, installer or facilities manager.
“Planning a dehumidifier project can be a complex undertaking due to all the parameters than need to be considered. Dehumidifiers don’t just remove moisture from the air but also generate heat during the drying process. Managing an area’s humidity often involves consideration of its temperature control too, and this 10-point guide walks the reader through the psychrometrics of this, as well as strategies to deal with it.” Dave concludes.
Condair’s 10-point guide to specifying dehumidifiers is available free to download from www.condair.co.uk/dehum-guide.

Crittall’s window display
Story
A town centre shopping mall in Stroud, Gloucestershire, has been given a new lease of life with Crittall playing a significant role in the makeover.
Dransfield Properties opted for a complete transformation of the Five Valleys Shopping Centre to include new retail outlets, as well as enhanced car parking, office space and a community hub with library.
Key to the interior appeal was replacing a jumble of disparate shopfronts and signage with a more ordered, modern appearance. Sheffield-based Dixon Dawson Architects selected Crittall W20 steel profiles for the task.
“The client wanted a particular style of glazing. I was familiar with Crittall and saw it as the best solution,” said Guy Dixon Dawson. “The whole mall was remodelled; frankly it was a bit of a mess beforehand. Now, everything, ceiling to floor, has been upgraded.”
The result is a simplified approach with Crittall’s slender steel profiled windows and doors providing a uniform appearance. All the cold form doors were a mix of hinged and automatic sliders.

Stelrad Unveils Detail Of Electric Radiator Series
Story
Stelrad is the number one brand within central heating radiators and is now setting its sights on the electric market with a highly competitive range of both steel and aluminium electric radiators. The new Electric Series range will be available through merchants from September 2023.
The range will include a dozen or so different models with a number of sizes of each model available, with standard radiators for any room along with a selection of towel rails specifically targeted at bathrooms and en-suites.
As well as offering effective, functional heating in the home, as you would expect from Stelrad, the radiators in the Electric Series are aesthetically appealing and provide attractive options for the décor in the home and come with a five-year warranty on the heating parts and a two-year warranty on the electric components.
The new range will include a number of exciting new products – like the Stelrad Electric Column design – a rounded vertical tube column radiator available in three sizes in both white or anthracite grey. There’s the Stelrad Electric Agata and the Agata E-Flow – a straight, flat tube towel rail design, featuring five banks of three tubes with spaces between each bank, available in three sizes in both white and anthracite grey. It combines modern design with functional heating and energy saving features. The E-Flow towel rails in the range feature a fan heater at the base of the towel rail and include manual controls for individual use of the towel rail or the fan heater, or both together as a 3 in 1 unit.
On the aluminium front, there’s the Stelrad Electric Alu Simple Dry and Simple Fluid – available in three sizes in either white or anthracite grey. The matching colour digital thermostat is included with each model along with its remote control. It’s a sassy design for any style room – that looks at home in any surroundings.
There’s the Stelrad Electric Cloud – a fashionable, smooth fronted, curved faced steel radiator comes in four models, in white and anthracite that offers a chic heating option for any room in the house. Exceptional warmth and remarkable energy efficiency wrapped up in a single solution.
And the Stelrad Electric Cobalto and Cobalto E-Flow – a trendsetting flat tube towel rail combines captivating good looks with exceptional heating efficiency and offers a sensational solution for heating in the home. An answer to those selection headaches when seeking a modish addition to the home’s décor, the Cobalto is simply stunning. As with the Agata the Cobalto E-Flow towel rails feature a fan heater at the base of the towel rail and include manual controls for individual use of the towel rail or the fan heater, or both together as a 3 in 1 unit.
Not to be overlooked there is the Stelrad Electric Fantasia a mirage of a tubular towel rail – available in white or anthracite to match or contrast with colour schemes and designs in the home – offers the kind of clarification demanded by designers looking to unravel the complexities of style and opulence. Quite simply the tubular solution of choice.
Chris Harvey, Stelrad’s Head of Marketing for the UK and Ireland says: “The new range offers a selection of radiators and towel rails with Stelrad’s unbeatable quality and design to suit every area in the home and to match or contrast with décor in every room. The selection includes radiators that are dry, dry stone and fluid filled offering a full choice of options within the technology. As you would expect, the new range offers a variety of energy saving and comfort enhancing features with fitted controls. Some of the new radiators will be ‘three in one’ options, featuring a fan heater at the base of the radiator and manual controls that allow you to use the towel rail and the fan heater individually or together if you wish. Colours will be white for all radiators with the option of anthracite grey and chrome for some of the models.
“Amongst the features you’ll find on these new radiators you will discover the ‘Open window’ function that enables the appliance to automatically detect when a window is opened near the towel warmer and to switch to ‘anti-freeze’ mode to prevent unnecessary heating and to avoid wasting energy. Similarly, it can detect when the window is closed and restore the operating conditions set previously. The appliance comes on automatically at ambient temperatures below 7°. And when the ‘child safety’ function is activated, the surface of the appliance is cooler than in normal operation in the currently active mode to avoid the risk of burns caused by brief accidental contact. These are just a few of the features – these are intelligent radiators that are designed to provide heating in the most flexible and energy effective – and as a result – cost effective way.”
Chris continues: “We pride ourselves in being a one stop shop for all things radiators and the arrival of the electric series builds on that claim still further. Full details of the new range will be unveiled in the next couple of months and be available to order from September.”
The Stelrad Electric Series provides a range of exciting new options where direct electric heating is the chosen option for a home. Head for the Stelrad website at www.stelrad.com for further details.

Saniflo’s Sanibest Pro provides robust service for guest house
Story
Saniflo UK – a leading designer and manufacturer of macerators, pumps and lifting stations – continues to solve some of Britain’s quirkiest plumbing issues while providing best-in-class technical consultation to ensure the right product is specified first time.
In March 2023, a 100-year-old two-storey guest house apartment above commercial premises in Inverness received a new Sanibest Pro to replace a non-Saniflo macerator that had been changed three times in seven years and had required multiple repairs and maintenance due to clogged blades.
The experts at Saniflo advised the property owner that the Sanibest Pro, although usually specified for commercial applications, would suit this domestic scenario because a more powerful product was required to dispose of items that clog blades, such as wet wipes. The Sanibest Pro occupies the same space as its defunct predecessor, so no additional plumbing or pipework was required.
Matt Watson, Saniflo National Sales Manager, recommends that customers call the Saniflo technical team to double-check their requirements as every situation differs, and there may always be a better solution. He says: “Our engineers often attend call-outs where a product has been misspecified. We would always recommend a commercial product for an application like this, particularly when members of the public use the facility. Guests often don’t follow disposal guidelines and put bulky items down the WC; they don’t tend to worry as they do in their homes, so mitigating for that is important.”

AHU Evaporative Cooling CPD
Story
Dave Marshall-George, UK Sales Director, comments, “A single adiabatic humidifier can provide up to 680kW of evaporative cooling to an AHU from as little as 0.3kW of consumed electrical energy. Their potential for delivering low energy cooling to an air handling unit is great and we frequently see this application being employed in modern AHU designs. This CPD is an invaluable chance for consultants and building designers to explore how humidifiers can be used in AHUs to take advantage of this low energy cooling method. The case studies detailed in the session provide a clear understanding, beyond the theory and physics, of the actual energy savings that can be enjoyed.”
The seminar has been developed specifically for mechanical engineers and consultants. The presentation has been CIBSE-approved, therefore verified to be unbiased, up-to-date and technically accurate. All attendees will receive CIBSE points towards their continuous professional development (CPD) record.
The presentation can be given in-house at a recipient’s office, typically over a lunch period with refreshments supplied by Condair, or online via a webinar platform. Bookings can be requested at www.condair.co.uk/CPD.
