Crittall’s end of the pier show

Story

Crittall steel framed windows more than a mile out to sea at the mouth of the Thames Estuary are looking as good as new.

The company’s managing director Russell Ager made the discovery on a recent visit to Southend when on a bracing stroll to the end of the world’s longest pier.

Crittall windows were installed in the pier’s narrow gauge railway station in 2009.
“The mile walk out to sea was tinged with trepidation,” admits Russell. “What condition will the windows be in?”

But there was no cause for concern. “Thirteen years into their service life and the windows look incredible, as good as the day they were installed,” he says.

Coping with the hostile salty environment and a continuous battering by easterly winds proved no problem for the galvanised, powder-coated windows. The powder coating is a dual-coat system featuring a primer and topcoat specially formulated to perform in aggressive environments by Akzo Nobel and applied by Crittall’s expert in-house coating team.

Saniflo exhibits at Installer Show 2023

Story

From 27-29 June, Saniflo – a leading designer and manufacturer of pumps, macerators and lifting stations – will exhibit at the Installer Show at the NEC in Birmingham in Hall 5, stand B100. The decision to exhibit at this year’s Installer Show is thanks to the success of last year’s show.

This year, customers and prospects will be treated to a display of Sanifos underground pumps – popular with domestic and commercial customers – that feature multiple connection points to pump waste black and grey water from whole buildings when the building level is lower than the mains drains.

Also on display will be the new Saniflush, a modern WC with an easy-access, integrated macerator that can take the waste from a sink. The sleek, seamless design highlights the simplicity of converting an unused space into a stylish cloakroom or bathroom when gravity drainage isn’t accessible.

In addition, visitors to the stand will find a range of condensate, submersible, and shower pumps.

All visitors to the Saniflo stand can enter a special prize draw to win £100 Amazon Gift Voucher by answering the question on the competition entry form. One lucky winner will be chosen randomly at the end of each day.

Saniflo UK Marketing Manager, Amanda Mills, says: “We had a successful Installer Show last year and we’re looking forward to this one and having the opportunity to showcase the quality and durability of the Saniflo range of products to existing customers and prospects. We’re particularly keen to demonstrate the benefits of the Sanifos range and the success Sanifos is enjoying with domestic and commercial projects. The Saniflo experts will be on hand to answer all questions. We look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Bradite One Can’s Sister Act

Story

It has already proved it can tackle almost any industrial surface, but now Bradite One Can has conquered the art world too, thanks to the skills of two award-winning designers and muralists from Hampshire.

2SistersUK is run by Lauren and Chloe Piper, who burst onto the design scene several years ago with their vibrant brand of painted artwork and hand lettering. Based in Waterlooville, their client portfolio now includes clothing company Fat Face, Hilton Hotels, Dior and Boots.

The latest of these, a Mexican styled eatery called ‘Bonitas’ at Southsea, Portsmouth, wanted something wonderfully bright to add impact to their outdoor seating area. “They are a very trendy, ‘Instagrammable’ restaurant, so they wanted something for people to take selfies in front of and post online” says Chloe.

The sisters were recommended Bradite One Can while searching for something that would work on all surfaces and prove highly durable.

“We were blown away by the quality of Bradite paints and are really excited to find such a good quality paint that can be mixed to so many different colours,” Chloe explains.

“We paint artwork and murals for clients on so many different surfaces and in so many different colours, and we always have the headache of finding suitable paints that come in the correct colours. With Bradite we no longer have that problem! It’s super easy to use, flows nicely, and doesn’t smell as strong as most exterior paints.”

2Sisters began painting in their garden, creating wooden signs and selling them on eBay or at markets. This developed into graphic design and making prints to sell on Etsy, with their first request for a mural coming about seven years ago.

“We had no idea what we were doing,” admits Chloe, “but took on the job anyway thinking we could just wing it. We enjoyed painting so much that we started researching how we could do this all properly.”

They discovered that a huge market already existed in the USA and was yet to reach the UK, so they started pitching to companies locally and things took off.

Now with the trusty Bradite One Can in their stock of materials, they add: “We’re so excited to use it again.”

Bradite Floor-It on the Menu

Story

Bradite’s versatile, high-performance floor coating, Floor-It, rose to a number of challenges encountered by Norwich-based JB Decorating Services on bars and restaurant projects across the country.

Floor-It is a low odour acrylic paint suited to medium traffic areas. It provides an extremely durable surface which is mark, stain and petrol resistant. Its quick drying abilities – touch dry in just 30 minutes and re-coatable after an hour – mean it is highly recommended for business or commercial use, where speed of completion is a major consideration.

“We were after a floor paint that was quick-drying and hard wearing.” Said Jake Bygrave from JB Decorating Services. His regular supplier, Brewers’ South Norwich branch, recommended the Floor-It product.

“I was very impressed with it. The application was fantastic.” says Jake, who decorated the floors of three bars in London, Plymouth and York, each with different substrates.

One floor was a non-porous concrete floor and another had been previously painted. As a versatile floor paint suitable for a range of internal or external surfaces, Floor-It was the ideal topcoat for a smooth, durable finish. The third premises had a floor newly fitted with plyboard, and here Bradite One Can was used as a strengthening primer.

Making use of the range of products available from Bradite has ensured a first-rate finish for three demanding jobs. Jake’s verdict? “Brilliant!”

Stelrad Launches Compact 900mm High Radiators

Story

As part of its programme of providing radiators to operate well with renewable heating systems – powered by air source and ground source heat pumps – Stelrad has announced that it will be launching a range of 900mm high radiators in a variety of widths in quarter 2 2023.

Head of Marketing Chris Harvey said: “There is a clear need for larger size radiators to cope with the lower circulating system temperatures generated by renewable heating systems and we are making sure our installer and specifier customers have access to the full range of options they will need in the months ahead.

“The transition from fossil fuelled, boiler driven systems to heat pump driven renewable systems is well underway and we’re making sure that installers and specifiers realise fully that radiators are ‘fit for the future’ and more than capable of providing the necessary heat around the home – radiators need to be sized properly as always to provide sufficient heating capacity and insulation needs to be evaluated to ensure its adequate to ensure the heat in the home does not escape to atmosphere.”

Head for www.stelrad.com for all the advice you need to decide on the right radiators for your installations and heating system designs.
