Saniflo launches customer friendly configurator

Story

Saniflo has launched a new, user-friendly, interactive configurator that enables customers to specify the Kineduo bath most suitable for their needs at the click of a button. Available on the Kinedo website the configurator can be used by anyone with access to a computer, tablet or mobile – including showroom staff sitting with prospective customers, merchants who need to assess the options for sale and installers who are planning the installation on site.

The Kineduo bath is highly customisable and prior to the development of the configurator it was a manual task to add items such as the glass bath panels, grab rails and other options. Because of the range of possibilities (there are thousands of potential configurations) it was never possible to create a photo for every possible scenario and it was left to the imagination to work out how the final product would look. Now, it is a simple task to pick the right spec and view an image of the final product with the option of downloading a printable pdf. It’s even possible to find a local registered Kinedo installer on the website and to email the required specification with a view to obtaining a quote for the supply and fit of the bath.

Simple to use, available in real time and optimised for every platform the Kineduo configurator is a time saving device aimed at making life easier for customers. Its ingenuity has been acknowledged by suppliers of the bath who are now incorporating it into their own websites.

NEW TROX PWX FANCOIL RANGE REDEFINES ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE

Story

TROX has announced the launch of a major new fancoil range – the TROX PWX Series – which brings to the market a 25% to 35% energy efficiency improvement over alternative models, with outstanding acoustic performance, and BACnet-enabled integrated controls packages as standard.

The launch of the new TROX PWX fancoil range follows an extensive research and development programme in which the company rejected incremental product enhancements in favour of a comprehensive rethink of fancoil technology. The new products have undergone thorough in-house testing, using TROX’s test chamber (constructed to comply with ASHRAE 79, BS1397 and EUROVENT 6/3), in addition to extensive corroboration of results at an independent test facility. As a result, specifiers are able to input exact performance criteria for an extremely wide range of thermal and acoustic scenarios when planning their air conditioning schemes, instead of having to rely on less reliable ‘anticipated’ or ‘expected’ data. The TROX PWX range is therefore able to speed up the specification of projects significantly, reduce levels of risk, streamline installation and commissioning, and provide valuable environmental and cost benefits.

Whilst the basic physical dimensions of the TROX PWX units have been kept the same (270mm deep) to meet market requirements, every aspect of the thermal, electrical and acoustic performance of these models has been redesigned. With new inlet attenuators, inlet plenums and discharge attenuators, the units feature completely redesigned key components capable of achieving outstanding performance across a wide range of applications.

The SFPs across the range comply with and exceed Part L requirements, with typical values between 0.15 to 0.25 W/(l/s) at 30 Pa ESP, with a Guide NR of 35.

The environmental performance of the fancoils has been developed in conjunction with the full range of TROX air terminal device options. TROX’s unique ‘One Stop Shop’ solution enables correct selection of air terminal devices to be tailored to each fancoil. This optimises potential energy savings without compromising air distribution (a factor very often overlooked when specifying the systems independently). The ability to source the entire system from a single supplier also enables specifiers to optimise the performance of the fancoils in VAV (variable air volume) systems. The specification process has been speeded-up by the introduction of sophisticated new in-house product selection technology. This makes it possible to identify the most effective combinations of fancoils, grilles and diffusers more quickly, making it possible to specify fancoils for entire projects in just minutes, rather than hours.

The TROX PWX fancoils are supplied with specially-designed on-board controls packages, as standard. Two different STD controls packages are offered:

  • BACnet control, offering the full flexibility of uniquely addressed terminal units, which interface with Building Management Systems (BMS) and provide feedback on each unit’s performance.
  • TROX can also offer standalone controls that allow user control of individual units where no BMS is present.

To complement these control packages, TROX is also able to offer a full water-side control package which has been designed to work seamlessly with either control option.

These control solutions provide a number of valuable benefits. Project lead-times can be reduced significantly, as all wiring diagrams are pre-designed and readily available. This reduces the time and costs associated with additional electrical scheme design or expensive customisation of BMS programming. Specifiers also have the peace of mind that the controls technology has perfect compatibility with the fancoil units, and has been developed specifically to optimise performance in a way that is hard to replicate with ‘bolt-on’ controls.

A key factor in the development of the TROX PWX Series has been the thoroughness of testing, which removes the project risks associated with incomplete or uncorroborated performance data. By thorough testing in-house using its own BSRIA type test rig, and by sourcing detailed external data for the fancoils from extensive independent testing, TROX is bringing to the market a range of products with unrivalled, verifiable, specification data. Care has been taken to test the units at specified 30 Pascal external static pressures (ESPs) and to provide exact performance figures. This improves on industry practice where lower external static pressures might be employed during testing, culminating in misleading results.

This rigorous testing of electrical and thermal performance has been matched by extensive independent acoustic testing. The acoustic testing, carried out in accordance with BS EN 16583:2015, covers the entire PWX range, including all available fan configurations across the full operating range.

Such detailed acoustic analysis allows precise selection of units to suit the customer’s requirements and is complemented by TROX’s new selection process, enabling user adaptation of project-specific finishes that may affect the resultant room NR level. As the suspended ceiling finish has such a big impact on the room NR, TROX has worked closely with Armstrong Ceilings to pre-programme tested ceiling tile SRI values into its new calculation programme to ensure the correct acoustic assumptions are used.

The new TROX PWX Series is designed to replace the company’s earlier fancoil models. The range includes 6 different physical sizes of unit, with 9 possible airflow configurations and 16 different fan options. The units are designed for 4-pipe heating and cooling, 2-pipe cooling, or electric heating as standard. As TROX is able to supply almost every element of an air handling system, from AHUs to air terminal devices, key advantages for system designers and specifiers include the possibility of ordering the fancoils alongside VAV components and ATDs, from a single supplier, for a perfectly-integrated solution.

Triton extends liquid applied waterproofing range

Story

Triton has extended its range of liquid applied waterproofing products to offer a wider choice of systems primarily for the reliable waterproofing of roofs and podium decks. Each of the three new systems provides Type A barrier protection waterproofing as defined in BS 8102 (2009). They are quick and easy to apply, very fast curing and suitable for application in cooler temperatures – therefore extending the season for application and reducing the downtime of areas treated.

TWS-Poly H produces a totally seamless waterproof surface on prepared concrete and can be applied by squeegee, brush, trowel or roller. The 2-component polyurea formulation is ideal for waterproofing pitched or flat roofs, decks and balconies and other areas where a degree of flexibility is required. The trafficable, cured surface also makes it suitable for waterproofing concrete floors in car parks etc. TWS-Poly H can also be applied to internal and external walls.
TWS-Poly S is another fast curing, 2-component polyuria formulation but designed for application by a twin nozzle, heated spray unit. Offering excellent bonding strength and crack bridging capability, TWS-Poly S can be combined with geotextiles to obtain on-site applied, seamless liners or coatings in tunnels or canals or used to waterproof pitched or flat roofs. The cured surface allows for building movement and is trafficable and highly resistant to abrasion.

Single component TWS Fastcoat cures as an elastic and seamless layer that offers excellent weather resistance and can withstand permanent water contact. A key feature is its ability to deliver a combination of root barrier and waterproofing layer, therefore reducing the number of layers required in green roof construction. Applied by brush, spreader or airless equipment, its cured surface can be lightly trafficked making it suitable for low pitch or flat roofs and balconies.

Liquid applied waterproofing systems can deal with complex shapes and contours where joints or folds in other waterproofing materials might cause a weakness. Technical support on the specification and installation of all Triton’s waterproofing systems is available from Triton’s technical team. Installation guidelines and data sheets are also available for download at tritonsystems.co.uk

WAGO expands engineering centre making bespoke trunking systems

Story

WAGO expands engineering centre making bespoke trunking systems

WAGO has invested over £200,000 in building an engineering centre located at its UK headquarters in Rugby that is dedicated to designing, pre-assembling, testing and distributing bespoke modular trunking systems for commercial and industrial new builds and upgrades. The centre is a world first for WAGO.

Modular trunking
“While modular wiring is not new, what is different is the concept of modular trunking,” explains WAGO’s Steve Emberton. “Today WAGO is offering a one-stop shop, with modular trunking bringing together all control, power and lighting into one integrated system. Our ability to combine a modular trunking system with I/O is a first within the UK market, allowing many building services to be monitored and controlled using a single platform.” The same trunking can also carry other piped services.
The modular trunking is assembled at WAGO’s facility in incremental lengths and can be installed by non-qualified personnel. Electricians are only required on-site, and in far fewer numbers, for final wiring and testing, thereby significantly reducing labour costs.
Contained within the modular trunking is WAGO’s WINSTA® pluggable connection and cabling system which, via a system of harmonised plugs and sockets, connects all electrical installations and components with each other, from large fan coil units to individual dado sockets. The connectors simply plug together and are keyed to avoid mis-mating, significantly reducing installation errors. The trunking distributes power and data to and from I/O modules to monitor and control various automated systems throughout a building.
Initial investment on modular trunking is rapidly returned with significantly faster installation times leading to considerably lower overall project costs. WAGO’s ability to deliver a fully integrated “plug and play” system assembled off-site at its production unit, allows customers to benefit from shorter lead times and more effective distribution of labour. With less cabling and testing required, fewer staff are required for installation. This reduces the numbers of people required to work at height, while improving overall site health and safety.

WAGO-I/O-System
The WAGO-I/O-System supports all major protocols such as BACnet, KNX, DALI and EnOcean, Modbus/TCP/IP. The I/O system can be used to control and monitor almost any building automation task, from heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) to lighting or window blinds. “The compatibility of the I/O system, with all commonly used programming protocols, permits streamlined integration and communication with almost any existing systems installed prior or alongside WAGO’s.
“The concept was created following a demand from the hospital sector, where there was a need to ensure separate power supplies for critical areas like theatres, and for more general areas” says Emberton.
The engineering centre in Rugby comprises a design team, pre-assembly, testing facility and despatch, manned by some 20 personnel.

Design team
The modular trunking is assembled at WAGO’s facility based on specifications supplied by the customer, or designed by WAGO’s engineers. The company offers consulting and project planning services to help customers devise the best possible solution for their project. An experienced in-house engineering department offers access to highly skilled building services project consultants, who offer advice or undertake site visits to assist the design and planning process of projects, and ensure that the right systems, solutions and components are selected.
Where previously customers would have to design, commission and install trunking, HVAC, lighting and blind control systems often from separate companies, WAGO is able to provide a fully integrated solution delivering comprehensive building automation capabilities underpinned by secure, reliable connections.

Pre-assembly and testing facility
All modular trunking is tested electrically and for material defects using three rigs from MK Test Systems. This ensures that every trunking system leaves the facility having been fully tested to specification ready for quick on site installation.
All trunking is fitted with WINSTA connectors that have a high current rating, and wiring that performs to specification, with minimal leakage or field effects between adjacent running cables.

Despatch
While time is saved during installation, WAGO is keen to avoid delays in delivery or confusion as to what has been dispatched and where it is to be used. WAGO packages the modular trunking safely and securely to ensure it arrives at site ready to use. For schools, hotels or offices, where several types of room are repeated in a building, the trunking is packed “per floor” or “per room”, ensuring that the installer has the right trunking per room type delivered in one clearly labelled container.

What are the benefits to using Engineered Timber?

Story

The benefits of Timbmet Engineered Components (TEC®) compared to Timber are explained in a new brochure that underlines why the company is at the forefront of innovation in the largely traditional timber industry.

Manufacturers and installers will find that Timbmet’s multi layered construction of TEC® offers stability and stress performance far in excess of Timber. These highly engineered wood products – available in four key species – are made by joining/gluing multiple pieces of material together.

TEC® is designed to provide uniform performance; a flawless appearance free from nots, splits and staining; reduced levels of waste; and savings on material yield costs and labour costs.

“We hope that we can help our customers to see the benefits of using Engineered Timber” says Justin Hayward from Timbmet. “Timbmet is so confident that you’ll see improved results using TEC® that we can provide working samples for you to trial.”

Compared to solid wood, TEC® could save approximately 25% on material yield costs; made to measure components could also result in 30% less waste and lower associated costs. Waste is also produced at the source of manufacture which means it is recycled back into other wood products.

Labour costs are also reduced because of ease of storage and assembly of the quality controlled product.

Mike Thompson of Biker Group says: “We now use engineered Red Grandis for all our doors and windows because of its quality, performance, stainability and sustainability, and because it is economical and 100% FSC® certified.”
TEC® is available in European Oak, Sapele, Redwood FSC® or PEFC certified, and FSC® certified Red Grandis, exclusive to Timbmet in the UK.

Julian Connelly of Patchett Joinery says: “Red Grandis being a hardwood, the consistency of the grain means no imperfections appear after painting. The result is a high performance, low maintenance material that ensures higher value for our customers.”
Timbmet can offer a comprehensive off-the-shelf range and the capacity to manufacture bespoke components, plus the fact that all TEC products are FD30 fire certified. The range includes Window, Door and Stair parts, in addition to Sandwich Panels, Insulated Sandwich Scantlings and Glulam Curtain Walling.
